Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference
between a PA-C and an MD?A Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C) is a health professional
certified to work alongside physicians. PA’s are trained in the
medical model as are doctors and cover all areas of medical
training. All of our Physician Assistants specialize in dermatology
and are supervised by Dr. Young. In many settings, PA’s perform all
the same duties as doctors; this is true in our office as well, with
the exception of the MOHS procedure.
Q: What is an aesthetician? An Aesthetician is
a licensed non-medical practitioner who specializes in the
education, preventative care and treatment of the skin, by offering
non-invasive treatments, such as facials, light chemical peels,
exfoliation, make-up application and various other skin therapies.
Q: Do you offer Botox and
Restylane treatments?Yes. We offer both Botox and Restylane
treatments in our Salem office. Check out our Cosmetic Procedures
page for more information!
Q: How do I know if I have a suspicious spot or mole?
First, the best way to know is to perform regular self-checks,
making sure to look for any changes or new spots on skin. Also, for
spots/moles that have already appeared, look for the ABCD’s of
Melanoma:
Assymetry—One half doesn’t match the other.
Border Irregularity—The edges are ragged, notched or blurred.
Color—The pigmentation is not uniform. Shades of tan, brown, and black are present. Dashes of red, white, and blue add to the mottled appearance.
Diameter—The width is greater than six millimeters (about the size of a pencil eraser). Any growth of a mole should be of concern.
Second, schedule an annual skin check with a dermatologist.
Q: I've tried everything for
acne; what do you have to offer for treatments?
At Silver Falls Dermatology we provide many options for the
prevention and treatment of acne in patients of all ages. Your
medical provider will work with you through the whole treatment
process to ensure that you get the best results possible. We do
offer accutane for those patients with chronic, persistent acne that
has not responded to other treatments.
