Board Certified Dermatologist and Mohs Surgeon Todd L. Knapp, MD has been named Best Dermatologist in Eugene by readers of the Register-Guard for the last four years. We are pleased to announce that he has joined Silver Falls Dermatology and is moving his practice (and his popularity) to Albany and Corvallis.
Skin cancer diagnosis and treatment
“We’re pleased to welcome Dr. Knapp, along with his stellar reputation,” says John Young, MD, Silver Falls Dermatology medical director. “Albany and Corvallis will benefit from his surgical expertise, and we are happy to accommodate his previous patients as well.”
In the past three decades, more people have had skin cancer than all other cancers combined, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Mohs surgery has come to be accepted as the single most effective technique for removing Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) and Squamous Cell Carcinoma, with a cure rate of 98 percent or better.
Dr. Knapp is one of only a handful of Fellowship-trained Mohs surgeons in Oregon. During Mohs Micrographic Surgery, layers of cancer-containing skin are progressively removed and examined until only cancer-free tissue remains. The goal is to remove as much of the skin cancer as possible, while doing minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue. The entire process of removal and examination of the cancerous tissue and subsequent reconstruction is completed in one office visit, under local anesthesia. The process takes two-four hours depending on the size and complexity of the tumor.
Mohs surgery and resulting reconstruction are generally covered by insurance, including Medicaid and Medicare.
Dr. Knapp graduated from Brigham Young University, then attended medical school at the University of Utah. He was inducted into the National Medical Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha, during his junior year and graduated at the top of his class. Dr. Knapp completed his dermatology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he was Chief Resident. Following his dermatology training, Dr. Knapp was accepted to one of the nation’s premier cutaneous oncology and reconstructive surgery fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed his training in Mohs micrographic, dermatologic, and laser surgery. He is board certified in dermatology and a member of the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology.
Formerly of Oregon Medical Group, Dr. Knapp is no longer practicing in Eugene. Instead, he is now accepting patients in Albany and Corvallis.
Dr. Knapp has lived in the valley for more than fifteen years, and enjoys fishing, hiking and spending time outdoors with his wife and children.
